Block Porn on Your Kid’s Devices Using Different Ways

The internet is laden with pornography. No matter how much you try to avoid it, you’re going to find porn all over the internet. It’s impossible to entirely get rid of porn. While adults can ignore pornographic-related ads on the internet, we cannot say the same about kids.

Kids are curious to explore the internet as soon as they are given access to it. One click on the pop-up ad and they are taken to the world of pornography. A single click can make them addicted to porn. They can come across porn sites featuring adult content while browsing the internet.

Although it seems like a difficult task to keep kids protected from the world of pornography while they are using the internet, still parents need to do everything that they can to prevent their kids from being exposed to explicit content.

Parents can enable parental controls, set filters, and blockers, and also install cell phone spy apps on their kid’s smartphones to prevent them from watching porn. Besides that, you can also talk to your kids about what porn is, why it exists, and why they should not be seeing it.

Along with using monitoring apps and setting parental controls on your kid’s devices, you also need to have an honest and open conversation about porn with your kids so they can have a better understanding of love, relationships, and sexuality.

Below, we have discussed some of the most effective ways to block porn on your kid’s devices in order to prevent them from seeing it on the internet.

Turn on the Google SafeSearch

One of the primary ways to block porn on your kid’s devices is to turn on the Google SafeSearch. First of all, you need to set the search engine as the default search engine on your kid’s device to Google. Once you’ve done that, you need to open the Google app on their phone, tap on the gear icon to open settings, scroll down a bit and then select Search Settings. There, you need to tap “Filter explicit results” under SafeSearch filters. You can also enable Google SafeSearch on your kid’s laptop and desktop computer.

It’s important to check your kid’s devices periodically to make sure they haven’t turned off the Google SafeSearch feature.

Using Screen Time on iOS Devices

Another way to block porn on your kid’s phone is using the Screen Time feature. Remember that this feature can only be used on iOS devices. So if your kid is using iPhone or iPad, you can enable this feature on their device.

You can both enable restrictions on your kid’s device and lock their device with a passcode so they cannot change them back. Besides that, you can also control and manage your kid’s device remotely through Apple’s Family Sharing feature.

All you need to do is open the Settings on your kid’s iOS device, scroll down and then tap Screen Time. There you need to choose Content & Privacy Restrictions and then turn on the feature. Now, go through each setting and see what you want to allow your kids and what you need to limit for them. If you want to block porn on their device, you need to open the Content & Restrictions section and turn off all the explicit content including the web content.

Get Help from Your Internet Service Provider (ISP)

You can also seek help from your internet service provider (ISP) to block porn on your kid’s devices. Your ISP may also provide parental controls, screen-time management features, or content filters that can help limit exposure to adult content. For example, Xfinity provides web blocking, parental controls, and device limits to its customers through its app. On the other hand, Verizon also offers a Smart Family program that provides parental controls to its users for a fixed monthly fee.

Install Monitoring/Parental Control Apps

Installing an effective and reliable cell phone monitoring or parental control app on your kid’s device is another best way to block porn on their device. There are several monitoring and parental control apps available in the market that can help you block and filter all inappropriate sites and apps on your kid’s devices.

In fact, you can also find spy apps for Android and iPhone that enable you to monitor your kid’s devices without them knowing. Using these spy apps, you can see what your kids are up to on their devices. You can know which sites they are viewing, what content they are watching, and which apps they are using on their smartphones.

Once you’ve decided to install a monitoring or parental control app on your kid’s device, you must go through your options and conduct research to find out which app would work the best for you. You need to see what monitoring features the monitoring app offers. For example, you should only consider getting a monitoring app that has the ability to block specific sites and apps on your kid’s device. The monitoring app should also be able to restrict certain domains containing porn keywords. The app should also send you immediate alerts as soon as your kids search for keywords such as sex, porn, etc. on their devices.

You can use these different ways to block porn on your kid’s devices. However, you should not ignore the fact that having open and direct communication about porn with your kids is also equally important.

Before blocking porn sites on your kid’s device, you must tell them why you’re doing so. You must inform them about the dangerous aspect of viewing porn at a young age. Porn can damage their concept of love, sexuality, and relationships.

If you won’t have a conversation with your kids about porn, they would be more curious to learn about it themselves. You may try to hide the subject of porn from your kids but they can learn about it from somewhere else. Your kids can probably ask their friends about it or look up for it on the internet.

Instead of letting your kids get all the wrong information about porn from some other source, it is better that you educate them on porn yourself. Only you can guide them better and protect them from the dangerous world of porn.
